The Municipality of Digby has a Dog By-Law. It can be viewed here: pdf Dog By-Law (2.38 MB) .
The Dog By-Law requires that dog owners register their dog(s) with the Municipality, and they will then receive an identification tag that must be securely attached to each dog. The registration fee is $10.00 per dog and includes one identification tag.
It is an offence under the Dog By-Law to fail to register a dog or to not have the identification tag on the dog. The Dog By-Law contains several other offences including for dogs running at large, fierce or dangerous dogs, and barking dogs. There are fines and penalties for these offences.
In cases where dogs need to be impounded by the Dog Control Officer but are eligible to be returned to the owner – there are impound fees that range from $50.00 to $100.00 plus an additional $10.00 per day. An owner is also responsible for any extraordinary expenses incurred about the capture, impounding, maintenance, or care of the dog.
