Ocean renewable technologies such as in-stream tidal turbines have the potential to generate huge amounts of clean energy which would help to displace greenhouse gas emissions, but it must be determined whether or not these technologies can do so without adversely affecting the ecosystem and other resource uses in and around the area where they will be used - in this case, the Bay of Fundy.
Through funding from the Nova Scotia Department of Energy, the Offshore Energy Research Association (OERA) carried out a Phase I Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) process for the Bay of Fundy and is currently in the process of Phase II Update.
