The Municipality of Digby has submitted a letter to Nova Scotia Power expressing serious concern regarding the company’s response to the recent data breach that affected thousands of Nova Scotians.
Council strongly believes that the 24-month credit monitoring currently being offered to impacted customers is not sufficient given the long-term risks associated with identity theft and fraud. At the June 10th By-Law & Policy meeting, a motion was passed to recommend that Council formally request Nova Scotia Power to extend credit monitoring services to at least 10 years for those affected by the breach.
The letter has also been shared with the Honourable Jill Balser, MLA for Digby-Annapolis & Minister of Cyber Security and Digital Solutions, Premier Tim Houston, Honourable Trevor Boudreau, Minister of Energy, and the Nova Scotia Federation of Municipalities (NSFM) to encourage broader support and advocacy on behalf of residents across the province.
